Why Bonwycks exists
Roofing is the trade with the widest gap between the best and the worst work, for one simple reason: almost nobody can see the finished job. Once the scaffold comes down you are trusting that the membrane went on properly, that the battens were graded and treated, and that the flashings were dressed in lead rather than smeared with silicone.
We built this company around closing that gap. Every job gets photographed at the stages you would never otherwise see — the stripped deck, the new membrane, the battens, the leadwork — and those photographs are yours to keep. If we have done it right, we want you to be able to prove it. If we have got something wrong, we would rather find out on the day than in three winters' time.
What we actually do
Everything from a single slipped tile to a full re-roof, plus flat roofing, leadwork, chimneys, guttering and roofline. We are a roofing company, not a general builder who also does roofs, and we do not subcontract the roof itself — the people who quote your job are the people who turn up to do it.
The work splits roughly three ways: repairs and emergency call-outs, full re-roofs on Crawley's ageing New Town housing stock, and flat roofing on extensions and garages across Sussex and Surrey. Our portfolio shows a fair cross-section of all three.
Where we work
Crawley is home. Our vans start here every morning, which is why we can be with most local customers the same day and why there are no travel charges anywhere in the town. From there we work a radius of about fifty miles covering West Sussex, Surrey, parts of Kent and South London, and you will find a page for every town we cover, written by someone who has actually worked there.
We have deliberately not stretched further. A ten-year guarantee only means something if the company giving it is still down the road when you need it.
How we price
Fixed written quotes, itemised, with the materials named — not estimates that grow. If we open a roof and find something genuinely unexpected underneath, such as rotten rafters or a failed purlin, we stop, photograph it, and price the variation before we carry on. You always get the choice.
We do not do doorstep sales, we do not cold call, and we do not have a today-only price. If you want to think about it for a fortnight and get two other quotes, that is exactly what we would tell our own family to do. Our guide to choosing a roofer tells you precisely what to check — including on us.
Standing behind it
Ten-year workmanship guarantee on re-roofs, in writing, transferable if you sell. Manufacturer guarantees on materials sit on top of that. Fully insured with public liability cover, and registered as a licensed waste carrier — worth checking on any roofer you speak to, because roofing waste that gets fly-tipped is traced back to the householder who paid for it.
